Men and women alike can now make unwanted facial or body hair a thing of the past and forget about painful waxing, electrolysis and razors. LightSheer hair removal is performed by our doctor for patients in our region for the treatment of unwanted hair. The LightSheer system presents a revolution in hair removal. Using technology beyond that of other lasers, the LightSheer can disable hundreds of hair follicles in less than one second. The procedure is computer-guided and promises long-lasting results.
Our LightSheer hair removal system is a non-invasive laser specifically designed to eliminate undesired hair from all parts of the body. The LightSheer system generates intense long-pulsed light through an actively-cooled handpiece to effectively disable unwanted pigmented hair follicles, thus impairing their growth. The laser's cold handpiece is placed gently on the skin, as pulses of light are delivered from the laser. When the light penetrates the skin, it selectively damages the root of the unwanted hair.
With the "cool tip" handpiece and the LightSheer process our physician can gently treat hair while maintaining a healthy, normal appearance of the surrounding tissue. The LightSheer can remove hair from all parts of the body including the cheeks, legs, arms, underarms, and back, as well as sensitive areas like the ears, nose, chest, nipples, and bikini line.
How does LightSheer compare with other hair removal methods?
Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams are all temporary methods which must be repeated on a regular basis. Hair removal with LightSheer offers longer lasting results.
How do LightSheer hair removal treatments compare with electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to destroy them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. LightSheer delivers light energy non-invasively to hundreds of hair follicles simultaneously. So, in a few minutes, LightSheer can effectively treat an area that would take over an hour with electrolysis.
What are LightSheer hair removal treatments like?
LightSheer's cold handpiece greatly reduces any discomfort during treatment. When the pulse of light is delivered some patients experience a mild sting or pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band. No local anesthesia or pain medication is required. Some patients prefer a topical anesthesia when sensitive areas are treated.
Are there any side effects with LightSheer hair removal treatments?
Short term side effects may include slight reddening of the skin or local swelling which typically lasts less than an hour, although rarely may last a few days. In rare instances there may be some blistering.
Does skin color make a difference with LightSheer hair removal treatments?
With LightSheer's unique design we have the flexibility to provide a customized treatment. Patients with fair skin respond the best. Suntanned patients or those with darker pigmentation may be pretreated with a topical skin bleaching agent, wear a sun screen and avoid the sun for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment.
How many LightSheer hair removal treatments are required?
The number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on the area you wish to have treated, the hair density and your hair's growth cycle. Your hair grows in cycles and many factors influence its growth. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism all play a part in your hair's location, thickness and resilience.
Are there any restrictions on my activity after my LightSheer hair removal treatment?
After our doctor performs your LightSheer treatment, the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities immediately. Our doctor may recommend that you use a specially formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regime especially formulated for your skin type after laser treatments. The use of sun screen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.
